SURYODAY ENERGY PARK

It is the duty of every individual in this country to utilize electricity in a responsible and measured way. However the electricity, which is produced in our country, is generated with the help of conventional sources of energy. These conventional sources of energy are limited and thus it is imperative that electricity production in future will have to rely on non-conventional energy sources.

Keeping this objective in mind Param Pujya Gurudev Ji has started the Energy Park initiative which has received a favourable response.
The Suryoday Trust and Rishi Sankul have developed several innovative methods of electricity production by the use of non-conventional energy sources. These methods include production of energy by means of wind and tidal energy. Shri Bhaiyyu Ji Maharaj has kept in mind the large chunk of rural population that uses energy. Methods of production of electricity through the use of cow dung, biomass and other materials, which are easily available in rural areas, have been developed at Rishi Sankul.

There is an energy park already running albeit on a trial basis at Khamgaon. The government has taken due notice of the success and enormous implications in this project and has indeed provided substantial amount of aid. The role of the central government aid has been quite important and with the success of the first project a second energy park is being planned at Nimkarda in Akola district.

Energy Parks have been constructed at Rishi Sankul, Khamgaon, Buldhana and Nimkarda district. The programme intends to provide information and impart training to the villagers in amassing the power resources like cow dung, sunlight, wind, biomass, tidal force alternative sources of energy.

“A FOREFRONT IN THE DIRECTION OF REFORESTATION”

Trees and vegetation are the bases of existence of life on our planet. Deforestation has made the land infertile and natural catastrophes like floods, drought, effects of global warming, have become an every year calamity in so many parts of the world.

In recent times we have played with our mother nature on account of development and industrialization. Ruthless cutting of trees, the creation of cemented jungles and devastating the water resources have resulted in climate changes.
The only solution to global warming is to plant and grow trees in abundant proportion. Hence the Shri Sadguru Datta Dharmik Evam Parmarthik Trust has undertaken Programmes of mass tree plantation. The Vasuswarga Vriksharopan Scheme (“A Forefront in the Direction of Reforestation”) has taken the step of planting 1.111.111 trees for the society, to fight global warming, pollution, and natural calamities and to encourage reforestation so as to save the earth.

In order to encourage school children and motivate them for participation in the plantation Scheme, the Trust had organized a procession in the month of June of year 2005 known as the “Vriksha Dindi”; a Plantation Procession in the drought hit areas of Maharashtra and distributed two lack saplings in the Buldhana, Akola, Washim and Amravati districts.

Visitors coming to the Suryoday Ashram (Alternate name for the Sri Sadguru Datta Dharmik Evam Parmarthik Trust) had to fill in a Sankalp Patra, (a form) in which they take an oath to safeguard trees. Then they present the form to Shri Bhaiyyu Ji Maharaj and go to plant their trees at their places.

As a result only in the year 2004, 11.000 saplings were planted in various areas. When the visitor comes next to the Ashram, he or she has to bring photographs of that plantation which is enough evidence of how they have started following the thoughts of Shri Bhaiyyu Ji Maharaj and their concern for the environment.

The Trust is aiming to Plant 111.111 saplings of various fruits and medicinal plants too. Looking forward to the present scenario our duty towards nature and society has become even more important. The Trust under Bhaiyyu Ji Maharaj's guidance along with the local patrons of the state of Madhya Pradesh and Maharastra, till now, have planted 1,839.701 trees across the different states of India.

“AN EFFORT TO PROVIDE SELFESTEEM TO THE RURAL STUDENTS”

When we talk about the development of our Nation, we need to give equal opportunities to every individual to learn, to read, and write, without making any discrimination between urban and rural children.

There are large numbers of students in rural areas who discontinue their education prematurely due to poverty. To support their domestic economical requirements, they work as child laborer in agriculture and other land jobs.
To root out the problem of poverty and unemployment from villages we need to concentrate our attention here.
Suryoday Trust has started the Balgram Yojna to provide self-esteem to rural students and support them with financial security and stability. Education will be provided to the children of poor farmers so as to make them self-dependent and self-sufficient. The Balgram Yojna is a scheme based on micro-credits. Saplings of fruit trees are being distributed to children in four districts of the Vidharbha region in Maharashtra. In addition to these villages in the districts of Pune, Kolhapur, Buldhana, Akola, Washim, Aurangabad, Beed, Osmanabad and Satara among many others are also beneficiaries of this scheme.

In every selected village 50 students of government schools learning in 8th standard to 10th standard are given 5 fruit saplings and Bio-fertilizer for plantation. The saplings, which are distributed, are used by the children for the creation of fruit gardens on their farmland. The money, which the children earn by the sale of these fruits, goes into funding their education. The Balgram Yojna has made its beneficiaries self-reliant. They have the responsibility to develop the plants up till 5 years. One supervisor from the Trust is appointed to guide these students from time to time regarding the maintenance of the plants. After 5 years the student will start getting the minimum amount of Rs2.000-2.500. These trees will generate enough money every year to fulfill their financial requirements for education.

This will also generate environmental awareness among the school children, their parents and neighbouring children. The necessary land papers and application form with the principle's recommendation is made available to selected school children.

The first phase of this programme is running in 13 villages of “Suryoday Gram” where 4.225 fruit saplings have been distributed to 885 students in Barshitakali and Tahsil in Akola district, in the second phase of the Scheme 36 other districts in the state of Maharashtra will also benefit. Till now this scheme has benefited around 1.235 children.
